Abstract on WPA:
The Federal Arts Project (FAP) was a division of the Works Progress Administration, a federal relief program designed in order to create jobs between 1935-1943. FAP posters were incredibly important in the efforts of government to direct Americans in a time of unprecedented economic and social devastation, The Great Depression. The government successfully shifted social, economic, and political responsibilities onto citizens while also promoting the productive use of free time through the creation of these posters. The message and imagery of these posters were meant to empower and inspire those who saw them, while also promoting education and social change.
